Two Lexington PAL youth boxers participated in the 2009 PAL National Boxing Championship
Two of our Lexington PAL youth boxers participated in the 2009 PAL National Championship Amateur Boxing Tournament in San Antonio.
Sariah Edwards was unopposed in the Junior Olympic Division at 154lbs, and was therefore crowned the 2009 PAL National Champion.
Traynora Locke, the reigning USA Boxing National Champion, dominated her bout in the semi-final with a score of 15-0. She then boxed Denise Rico, of California, in the final. Rico is a very experienced ring veteran with extensive experience in the amateurs. Locke turned in another great performance, but lost a very close decision.
Both females represented the Division of Police in a very positive manner, both in and out of the ring. They were also afforded the opportunity to meet numerous former World Champions such as Floyd Mayweather Sr., Ann Wolfe, Luis “Yory Boy” Campas, and Jesse James Leja. We would like to thank all of you that have supported the program since its inception.
The level of success we have enjoyed so quickly far exceeds any expectations that We had for the program at this juncture. We now intend to focus on increasing the number of participants during the winter months, while we will not be participating so extensively in national tournaments
